This post will provide a good way for you guys to finally understand how well you can withstand enemy attacks.
You want to calculate and keep track of your kill rate: “(troops killed + troops hospitalized) / (troops had) = kill rate”. So if I have 100 troops and someone attacks me, and I kill 30 troops. For every one troop I had, I killed 0.3 troops. Meaning a kill rate of 30%.
Another example: A attacks B with a 2 million troop rally. B gets 240k wounded and 220k killed. So, A has a kill rate of (240k + 220k) / (2 million) = 22%. B originally had 5 million troops in his castle and killed 700k troops of A, then B has a kill rate of (700k) / (5 million) = 14%
Party Pat says that when he and bigs choose to zero someone, they are projecting overall troop loses using a kill rate estimate of 20-25%.
So the next few times you get attacked, try to estimate a kill rate rate range for yourself. That way if you get rallied by a bunch of troops, you know whether to let them hit you because you have enough hospital space, attack power, or whatever, or whether or not you should shield to prevent from getting zeroed.
I BET YOU GUYS ARE STOKED ON THIS! I AM!

Thanks again to Party Pat for being smart!
