The Most Under Rated Core Gear
Debates concerning the pros and cons of Hero Gear in Game of War seem to be ever-present and never-ending. I see them daily in Alliance Chat, Kingdom Chat, interest sites, even on Instagram. A couple of days ago I even had an extensive debate over private message with a friend (whose Alliance mine happens to be at war with) to try and determine if Colossus Gear or Samurai Gear had better overall stats. For most gear sets, such differences of opinion may not ever be resolved and probably ultimately comes down to personal opinion. Additionally, with the recent over-drive of Game of War’s Hero Gear machine the most oft-expressed sentiment to end such discussion seems to be: “Well, give it a week and see what comes out next.”
With the constant flood of new Gear, including Cores, Sets, and Event Gear, it also becomes a chore to decide which Gear to craft. For non spenders and moderate spenders, there is always the worry of finally making Gear, only to see it become obsolete soon thereafter. Even for those who spend more, some of the materials (i.e., Turquoise Fireballs) and silver requirements (3.25 billion, in the case of Colossus Gear) can be both extremely difficult to obtain.
Recently, I did some Crafting that I otherwise probably never would have if it weren’t for some extra downtime I had. In doing so, I actually think this problem has been solved. After the endless debates, stat spreadsheets, and personal opinions, the most under-rated Set in Game of War is… Blacksmith Gear!? Yes, you read that correctly. With that tantalizing introduction, I will extol its many virtues and the benefits of adding it to your arsenal.
Blacksmith Gear Is Incredible
First, here is an analysis of the costs required for The Blacksmith Set:
Materials used: Unicorn Horn (2), Flanders’s Poppy (1), Silk Cocoon (2), Cowhide (4), Elephant’s Ear (1), Elephant’s Hide (4), Pig’s Foot (2), Chisel (7), Granite Slab (5).
Total Cost in Silver: 255,350,000
Average Duration of Crafting: 6-7 days, per piece
Overall, the cost of crafting the Blacksmith Set is fairly modest. Especially, when considered in light of its benefits. Now, on to the virtues.
The Blacksmith Set Saves You TONS of Silver
As we all know, nothing in Game of War comes without a price. Research requires materials and silver, as does training troops and building traps. Crafting in Game of War also requires two things, materials and silver, regardless of what you are crafting. These two requirements apply to all gear. However, the only Resource requirement that applies to everything is silver. Silver is the life blood of the Game. Most Kingdoms have resource rooms where people beg for it. There is never a day that goes by that I don’t hear tens of people asking for silver. And, since we all need Gear, Troops, and Traps we all need silver.
The Blacksmith Set provides a crafting cost reduction that saves the silver cost required for Crafting, and allows you to use it other places. Here are three examples, each listed first without using, and then with using the Blacksmith Set:
Viewed individually, the “Normal Equipment Crafting Cost Reduction” of 2-7% for the individual pieces in this set are… uninspiring…and would never be worth Crafting. Take, for example, the sticker-shocking Colossus Vambraces silver cost of 500,000,000. A 7% savings of 35,000,000 is more depressing than anything. The Full Blacksmith Set, with a Bonus, is a different story. As an example, here are screen shots of Colossus Vambraces first without, and then using Blacksmith Set:
In this example, the Normal Equipment Crafting Cost Reduction provided by the Full Blacksmith Set is 63%… Which translates into 2,047,500,000 silver saved if you were to craft the Full Colossus Set! I will let you translate that into troops. Needless to say, I am one that wishes this Set would have struck me a week earlier…before I mortgaged my SH and my Hero’s soul to craft Colossus.

First can I say great site! Been lurking for ages and occasionally tweeted.
Since this article, has anyone noticed the lack of materials for the blacksmith set? Can’t seem to get them in packs (I’m a medium/low spender) but have enough items for purple gear…is it worth just crafting the items that lower the silver cost even if it is just purple or even blue?
I have the same question. Many items are very hard to find. I am a low to med spender but can not find enough legendary items. I don’t want to waste silver and items if it is a waste to craft at a lower level. Thank you in advance.
You are getting over 60% off on original cost of silver. Could you show or list out your set bonus please?
I’m not tech savvy enough to post screenshots of my phone yet. Wtih the 7pce set, my bonuses are 10% crafting cost reduction & 36% core/relic crafting speed. This is on top of the 10% speed and 5.68″ core/relic crafting speed that I get from the 5 pce set. I don’t use this set for core/relic as I have a Salvager set for that.
Hey Chad. So I’m a medium spender and I’m thinking about crafting some blacksmith gear to cut down cost. Is it worth it to craft 1 or 2 pieces of gear? Or do you have to have the whole set to make it worth while?
Because of this article, I did the Blacksmith gear. I crafted a new piece every couple of days, not in a giant hurry to burn silver or speedups. Because I ran out of materials, (chisels mostly), I couldn’t do them all at once. I used the incomplete gear to craft other items in the meantime and thought the benefits were worth the cost even before the last 2 anvils. With the 7 pce set and Lucky Charm gems, I’m happy.
Has the blacksmith gear been taken away? Can’t find it.
It’s under set gear, crafting gear, at the very bottom
I started having these crashes several months back on my old iPad – so it’s not a new thing – to begin with it started happening occasionally, but it ended up like Mary says above – I could hardly play for more than 30 minutes before being crashed out of the game.
As usual, raising the issue with MZ got me nowhere.
In the end I bought myself a new iPad Air 2 – something I had been planning to do but not quite as soon – and I am pleased to say that the problem is solved (but remains whenever I use the old iPad). So, sadly, I think the capacity of your device is the main issue here – MZ have progressively made the game more and more complex, such that only better spec devices can really cope.
I’ve always wondered what the best device for GoW is.
Do the above blacksmith gear results include set research bonus’s?
Yes. Maximum.
Chad cover the story about stay alive boycotting kvks. We need to spread the word.
I’ll post something about it today. I’ve really been trying to understand the issue from a more constructive point of view instead of a straight “negative no compromise” point of view.
The issue in a more constructive point of view:
Early last week, MZ put out an update to the game. Since the update- which was mandatory, my kindle crashes about every 10-15 minutes. I wrote MZ to tell them about the issue, and they recommended uninstalling the game, powering off my kindle, then reinstalling the game- all of which I did. I continue to be kicked from the game at the most inopportune times. An example would be during the weekend KVK where I was holding roughly 30 heroes. I was burning a hive and the game started to lag, then I was kicked just as several players teleported in next to me. By the time I was able to get back into the game, I had been rallied and hit, causing 491K troops to be hospitalized. The kicks are unpredictable, sometimes they are preceded by a lag, sometimes, it is instant. Sometimes, you can play for about 30 minutes with no issues, other times not more than 3 minutes. MZ continues to blame the issues on my kindle, saying that using a low RAM device is the cause of the problems. I told them that I have never had an issue with my kindle until this past week. Additionally, I have the most powerful kindle made- HDX with 64 Gigs of RAM. While MZ continues to point the finger at kindle, and insists that there are no issues other than I have to upgrade my tablet, Amazon assures us that they are working with MZ to find the cause and a solution to the problem.
Mary I and many others have had the same issues for a long while. It has gotten so bad that I will NOT participate in kill events. It seems every time I do,I get kicked and come back to full hospitals. MZ needs to address it without a doubt. All these updates have made the game worse not better. They should go back to basics and start from scratch if they cannot figure out why this is happening. I use a IPHONE so they can’t say it is android devices.
I agree with this person, I get kicked out at the wrong time. I can go about 30 minutes and get kicked out. I have become defensive oriented, and not doing KvK events.
I would love to help out on the boycott, but when you mention it, it would be helpful to know why you are wanting to boycott the kvk. 🙂
