Happy November! I hope everyone is having an excellent month and looking forward to the coming Holidays. We are doing yet another Player SpotLight this month and in the Spirit of November, I am thankful for all the players who take time out of their days to allow me and the rest of our community the opportunity to get to know them just a little better. If you had not had the opportunity to go back and read some of our past profiles make sure that you take the opportunity to do so!
This month we are going to take the chance to shine the SpotLight on a player you will find more on the Demi Side of the game. BertaBadness has gone from a “monster slapper” (I love her terminology) to a lead in her time in Game of War. Join us to hear her story and get to know more about the amazing BertaBadness.
Meet BertaBadness
Berta is a member of the LOC family team in the Demigod Dimension and has been playing Game of War for years. Some of her most memorable accomplishments include:
Memorable accomplishments, I have a few, most are [a] couple [of] years back. I really enjoyed teaching SW when I was in PRO. Having players understand strategic timing and excitement when smaller players kicking Ctesse or stay alive was epic. I also have fond memories [of] playing with the Russian alliances for a couple of years, the translator was [an] epic fail but the game was epic then. More recently being on the leaderboards from the Super wonder events was surprising. But mostly it’s the interaction with so many great players and good people are memorable accomplishments.
Hear Berta’s Story from herself
I love hearing people’s history in the game. It is great to hear them recount their beginnings in the game and their history. We have Berta’s story for you in her own words!
I can’t tell you the exact date [she started playing] but it was early in the GOW beginning. I started in a little alliance, I was a monster slapper and not much more. I would watch the events from the sidelines and I learned targets and some gameplay just by observing.
Within a year after starting the game, I became the kingdom target spotter for kvks. I loved that! I felt like a general finding targets and watching them burn by the huge players. I was pretty good. The main leaders gave me pointers and they treated me pretty good. Soon after was recruited by 99z, so many epic players there and all so nice. I learned cores and leading using a live chat app called mumble. My first kvk, a player called me and gave me an 11 hour, on phone, a crash course on leading rallies. Because I knew targets so well and played daily I never trapped. The very first rally I sent hero-less, but I was in love with the rush and I was hooked. In 99z I taught rally leading and we were regularly winners of kvks.
99z collapsed, I was handed the alliance after it crumbled but that was too late so I floated a bit before going to PRO alliance. Quite a few players from 99z came with. A player named Crack recruited me to PRO then quit the game shortly after. I learned the SW from him and some from stay alive. Back then timing was key. Superwonder players would fill the forests. Good times. I passed on what I learned to others and enjoyed my time there. PRO had egos and many leaders (R4) who set rules and governed the alliance weren’t even playing they just set rules and we had to follow. It was really lame. “MY GAME, MY WAY” became my mantra from then on.
I played in SYR with Chi for a bit, he was a huge nemesis then became a good friend for a while.
After SYR I played with a Russian alliance. I strictly played not much socialization which was good. I loved the gameplay. Two players stood out DMX and Zeus. Translator was horrid then I learned just the attack and cancel dialog with them. I led rallies and played wonders. I learned what strong teamwork was in this game and became tougher. I learned “I burn, I learn” and not to get butt hurt when I’d burn.
When the alliance Megas formed and when the dragon side started the Russian alliance it lessened the players on the Demi side. It was a sad time. I played with WTF, shout out to killa and played with IWG shout out to God Attis, both were R5 and good leaders. Also, shout out to KAAAAY! Many good players in both but I didn’t totally fit in like I wanted to. I bounced around for some time.
I played with NO= for awhile thinking I wanted to be involved with the serious fighters, or the bad guys. It’s ok to be the bad guys, keeps the game interesting. This is a war game after all.
I bounced around after that couldn’t find a home where I fit. Currently, I’m in the LOC family. This family is supportive and the gameplay is strategic. I really like Kona, she’s a good leader to play under. I can name so many others here, they know who they are, but I have bored you enough… however, I will mention only 2, Torretto and Grunt are currently my top two game buddies. Now I play wonders mostly and lead rallies when I’m asked. I don’t play as much as I used to play, but I’m on every day. Still loving the rush of a good battle.
What is Berta wearing (what’s her go-to gear or her favorite gear sets from the past?)
Picture does not depict gear discussed
I liked the Pegasus, it was fast, I would solo players in the forest who were hitting monsters with their guard down. I was fast and deadly. Lol
BertaBadness’ Most memorable win and Loss
Most memorable was when kingdoms merged and heroless can be zeroed in one hit. I set on a player and had 4 rallies set on me. When I marched I was zeroed and I zeroed my target too. That was such a rush. It was glitch but it was so intense. I loved the rush!
BertaBadness’ Favorite Memory
Beating Ctesse at super wonder I was 1/8th of her power. I loved SW from that time forward. There was also a period of time when holding wonder meant kings would be zeroed. I didn’t care, troops were meant to die, I would hold relentlessly. After closing, I got many emails from other players commending me for my fortitude. That was nice. But I learned from Russians play hard and be proud of the burn. 😉🤔
BertaBadness’ Advice to players
This is honestly one of my favorite parts of doing Player Profiles. We get so much wisdom from different players in the game and how they view our little community.
( I have a few )
It’s a war game. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, make it a learning experience. Chin up!
Also, tread lightly on others, remember respect is earned. Going to war doesn’t mean to attack people personally or be totally vulgar and rude. Play hard and ask questions.
Battle every chance you can. No fun being under shield constantly… get out and fight, trap, spot, whatever. Above all, it’s a game to be played, get involved it’s more fun.
If you have issues in-game report to MZ. Don’t just hope it goes away. I had months of broken game time and was persistent. Be the squeaky wheel.
BertaBadness’ Thoughts on the Dragon Dimension vs the Demigod Dimension
Dragon side killed the game for players invested in the Demi side. Investing so much time in Demi I didn’t want to start over on Dragon. I only played there to get the components needed for Demi. But we all play differently.
One thing in the game that is exciting to BertaBadness right now
I’m comfortable and happy currently with the game. Nothing exciting currently. I’d wish there would be more battle players and wild cards in the mix like back in the day. Mz communicating with their events blog is the only thing that I’m currently excited about. It’s nice to know [the] schedule of events when life is busy.
Why does BertaBadness Play?
I love hearing why different players play and continue playing. We all have our reasons and they change depending on the player.
I had 3 years caretaking for a family member and it GOW was a good distraction during that time. But also I have been a gamer since ATARI and will probably never stop. I was a guild leader in WOW for a while before finding GOW, the teamwork is very similar and I like this type of game.
A Final Shout out from BertaBadness
Thank you for choosing me for the article… I’d like to give random shoutouts to players who impacted my game over the years, not listed above: Gabriel, Moon, Pun, Gunns, Evil one, Agent, Big Papa, Stan, Ninja, Kratos, Lizzy, lilwhip, Skin, PNC, DOC, VALIANT, Gator, Kara, Redrum, Jared, Mario, Big Bro, Carol, the many wonder opponents over the years and many others. Also, shout out to Wayne my MZ cs person who has endured my abuse and has handled me for [a] long time.
What do Berta’s Team and Friends have to say?
We took the chance to hear from some of Berta’s team and friends. Here is what they had to say about Berta!
So a funny story is we bicker all the time Bc she changes stuff after I’ve changed it and she changes it back on “accident” haha so I will call her and yell at her and she is a pit bull and fights back
-Grunt
She’s a great person…only respect for her
-Redrum
Berta is a thoughtful, persistent, and very intelligent player . She puts her mind to something and she doesn’t back down. She’s also a very caring and generous human being and I am lucky enough to call her my friend.
