Clarification of How You Can Trade in GoW
Lately Machine Zone has been cracking down on players who are ignoring the Game’s Terms of Service, which make some transfers of resources illegal. You may have seen people sharing these images and have been getting a little scared to buy resources from your kingdom’s farmer.
It’s getting pretty serious and some players have been confused about what they can and cannot trade in GoW.
For those of you who are confused, I’ll clarify it for you with this one sentence:
You can transfer resources using the marketplace or gift items via gift mode as much as you want as long as you don’t sell or buy resources using real world money.
Terms of Service
Here is a screenshot of Game of War’s Terms of Service that fully describes the rules:
Be careful out there!

It would be smart of MZ to run the selling of accounts and rss within their system and their game. You pay for your account, you should own your account. By MZ facilitating the transactions, they would eliminate many problems and scams from within the game. Had an 8b plus account and other large accounts stolen within our kingdom. Pretty simple, for even those that share your log ins. By MZ controlling the sale, they have a record of payment, and can transfer the purchased account. They could reset the log ins, or even if it is taken down the road, they have a record of payment of the last sale. And on top of it, they could charge a 3%-5% or whatever fee they wanted, and make butt loads of money on top of what they already rip us off for. Doesn’t make sense for MZ to not want this part of the game and to not control this portion of the game. Even RSS they could set up Ebay type stores to make it easier to buy/sell across kingdoms. The RSS may reduce some cash in packs bought, but at least the buying and selling of accounts should be a minimum. Get these scammers out of here, and let people own what they’ve paid for.
I see what you are saying, but I’m pretty confident they’d still make way more from players have to start new accounts. Ya know?
How is game play going since the release of the new TOS? I was a farmer that depended on trade to develop main city. Had 14 farms to build res and sell for speedups. Did not agree to the new terms so have not played since release. My initial investment was small only about $500. Have asked MZ to refund that money due to new TOS grossly changing the game. Go figure, no reply. Anyway, considering to take up the case in small claims court. I expect game will die slowly but maybe they will revise TOS to keep the farmer in play, idk. Anyway look forward to some comments, especially from some lawyers if I have a case.
the new term of use are not trying to protect players, what MZ want to do is avoid buy an acct that cost 10k build for just 2k, they want you spend the 10k in your account, that is the only truth, and that is the reason many more players are quitting.
Based on the language in the new agreement and even in the old one – it seems that more than half of the accounts currently over 1 billion have violated and continue to violate TOS. It seems that MZ wants to alienate their players? Those billion power players are probably the bigger spender and I seriously doubt MZ will do ANYTHING to prohibit those players from doing what they normally do, if they did that – if they actually enforced their TOS then there would be a lot less spending. They have a TOS very similar to other games in that they are stating that they OWN the game, the contents of the game and everything in it. You as a player have no rights even if you’ve paid for those boosts, gold, silver whatever packs. Knowing that – I’m surprised anyone would even spend one more cent. But then again, piss off enough of the populace and they’ll go back to playing other games and I think MZ knows it.
Do you think MZ will lock out a few individuals and make an example of them or do you think that they will actually enforce the TOS?
I think they will enforce it very slowly in very specific cases, and maybe over time become more liberal about it, because they don’t want to alienate everyone but doing a mass ban.
Actually, trade of rss for gold gifts IS illegal now. You can “Donate” but not trade
The sale or transfer of account is a pretty unreasonable item as well. What happens to kingdoms when players move on from the game? Those accounts supposed to just idle out? That hurts the kingdom … competing against other kingdoms is one of the main reasons a lot of us play the game. They’ll crush kingdoms that way.
I’m personally waiting to see how this plays out before I do anything further to my account.
I’d like to see some options to sell accounts eventually, but no other game that I know promotes account selling… if more people were smart about it, we wouldn’t be having this problem.. although I got scammed my first time too sooooooooooooooooooooooo
Not sure where to ask this. When you win an attack on a city you take rss, the amount lost seems to be much higher than lost through the marketplace. Does anyone know how that rate is calculated and whether it can be reduced?
30% lost on attacks
Kérek segitség a játékban +gold
So wait…
Does this mean that trading say…food for silver…with someone from another alliance is against the rules? If so that is total BS….
If that is in fact against the rules, it just goes to prove that MZ is really just a bunch of Money Zombies….where is the harm in trading rss that I spent time collecting with someone who spent their time collecting rss in a deal where no actual currency exchanged hands?
I think a little more clarification is in order here….
No that’s TOTALLY OK. Remember the one sentence in the article: “You can transfer resources using the marketplace or gift items via gift mode as much as you want as long as you don’t sell or buy resources using real world money.”
“USING REAL WORLD MONEY”
You can trade silver for food or vice versa as much as you want.
What about transfer via bounty? Are they allowed or do resources need to be sent via the marketplace?
Technically, MZ would probably say marketplace, but the bounty system is a part of the game, so use it if you can 😉
The problem with the terms of service is those resources are already purchased with real world currency. When push comes to shove they are claiming they maintain ownership of something they sold you. Something that in the real world is pretty hard to justify.
Their terms of service with payment providers allows you to recover the money lost when they don’t hold up their end of the bargain. Many have already received refunds for just that reason. MZ locking you out of an account for selling off something you paid for with your hard earned money is just not Kosher.
Can someone point out where during the pre-install or account creation process these terms of service were presented to anyone? Let alone where one would be on record of agreeing or not with same? You know – the check here to agree thing. I would think before those terms of service can be enforced legally they would have to be given to user prior to playing the game… And all updates to terms also have each and every user notified. I have never relieved a notification during install, account creation or notice by email of update to terms. I would bet MZ legal will need to get busy; also would be interested in knowing if said terms apply to StayAlive77 – think he is only only logging onto that account and maintaining control of super wonder, etc….? Betcha he has had multiple buddies helping – oops – that’s clear violation of terms of service – can’t share account or logon credentials.. Hmmm… MZ authority of enforcing their presumed TOS is weak at best if they were ever legally challenged on it.

I think when I installed the game on android it asked me to confirm, but I’m not totally sure.
